IDRC through the eyes of others
2009-02
Since its creation nearly 40 years ago, Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) has understood that development research is a collaborative venture.
Working hand-in-hand with researchers, donor institutions, and development agencies, IDRC supports Southern researchers in their search for solutions to the pressing development challenges facing their communities.
To take the pulse of this partnership approach, IDRC engaged the survey research firm GlobeScan to investigate how key partners and stakeholders perceive the organization. Some 506 grant recipients, co-funders, and strategic partners – mostly from developing countries – provided important feedback on IDRC and its performance.
Overall, the results confirm that IDRC is seen internationally as a true centre of excellence. Participants cited IDRC’s competent staff, effective partnership structure, and ability to build partner and developing-country capacity as its main strengths. Some weaknesses were also brought to light such as complex administrative procedures, which is a common complaint directed at funding institutions.
Read the survey’s key findingsThis information will be used to help IDRC build on its reputation and improve its performance at all levels so that it can continue to support researchers working to build heathier, more equitable, and more prosperous societies.
