IDRC Strengthens Relations with French Institute
Prev News 16 of 153 Next

IDRC is pleased to announce a more robust phase in its collaboration with France’s Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD).

IDRC President Maureen O’Neil and IRD Chairman Jean-François Girard signed an agreement to solidify the partnership between the two organizations. The agreement follows discussions in November 2007 that focused on ways to boost collaboration. Opportunities for joint efforts on several issues, including climate change, ecohealth, emerging diseases, and the role of science and technology in development, were identified.

“I think that IDRC and IRD are led by the same belief in the importance of the role of research and innovation for development. Our organizations tackle similar issues, and [IRD’s] approach, like ours, is multidisciplinary,” said O’Neil in an interview that appears in the latest issue of IRD’s newsletter Sciences au sud.

“We are convinced that our working together will lead to projects and research activities that will strengthen the capacities of research teams in the South.”

IDRC values its collaborations with other research development organizations, and recognizes that partnerships repay themselves many times over in knowledge creation, new and productive coalitions, and greater credibility.
