IDRC’s outgoing President, Maureen O’Neil, has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF), effective September 1, 2008.

“On June 30th, Maureen O’Neil will end more than a decade of exceptional leadership at the helm of IDRC,” said the Honourable Barbara McDougall, Chairman of IDRC’s Board of Governors.

Ms O’Neil’s experience in ensuring that policies are crafted based on solid research evidence and on building partnerships for the production and use of research will play a vital role in the ongoing work of the CHSRF in its efforts to address health management and policy challenges to improve the quality of Canada’s healthcare services.

Ms O’Neil’s distinguished career includes terms as President of The North-South Institute, Deputy Minister of Citizenship for the Government of Ontario, and Secretary-General of the Canadian Human Rights Commission. She has been a member or chair of numerous boards, including the Advisory Board to the Minister of Foreign Affairs; the International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development; the Institute for Women, Law and Development; and the Board of Governors of Carleton University.

“During Maureen’s tenure IDRC has built some of its strongest and most strategic partnerships, and has reinforced its reputation as a global Canadian agency improving the lives of people in the developing world. We wish her the best in this new phase of her career,” concluded Mrs McDougall.

IDRC’s new president, David Malone, assumes his duties on July 1, 2008.
