The IDRC-supported project Computers for Schools and Personal Computers Recycling Applied Research has been awarded the 2006 Chilean E-Waste Award.  The project, implemented by the Corporación de Estudios Sociales y Educación SUR – Corporación SUR (the Sur Social Studies and Education Corporation), won under the “Institution” category.

The project explores the opportunities offered and challenges posed by an excess of electronic equipment in industrialized nations, its potential shipment to locations in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the environmental, regulatory, and marketing consequences this issue may have in the region's development.

The E-Waste award, given by Recycla and Octantis, recognizes contributions to the promotion of electronic recycling initiatives for the protection of the environment and as representations of good social corporate responsibility in Chile.
